A tribute to HER

I never understood her obsession with plants, until I caught the planting bug and starting having plants of my own.

At 79, she would make it a point to water them herself EVERY, SINGLE. DAY. And when she went somewhere overnight, she would recruit one of us to water the million and one pots of hers.

Driving over wasn’t the issue…it was filling up the makeshift water pitcher from the kitchen, carrying it to the balcony and remembering her words “make sure all the plants get enough water, almost to the point of overflowing”. So a few drops here and there weren’t going to cut it, her voice was in my head!

I never understood the makeshift water pitcher either. Why didn’t she use a hose?

Watering the plants was the perfect excuse to raid her fridge. It was like going to a restaurant and then shopping at a supermarket, I would take anything from milk to apples. A doggie bag and groceries? I was in heaven.

I once caught her carrying one of those large CRT TVs ALL by herself. She must have been in her early to mid-80s by then.

She told me she had to carry it right then and there, she was re-arranging her bedroom of course.

She was strong, both physically and mentally. She was a fighter.

January 4, 2018, was her last day on Earth.

Maybe now she’s resting peacefully, away from naysayers and everyone who did not have her best interest at hand.

Goodbye, my beloved grandmother.
